Mid-June Ultimate Driving School
This school replaces our traditional Fall Driving School and Club Race weekend in late September. The club races this year include the Joel Ajavon Memorial Enduro late Friday afternoon, and the Stan Parker Memorial Sprint Races that run in conjunction with our driving school on Saturday and Sunday.
Because space is limited, this school is not open to novice students. There will be only two student run groups at this school: Advanced/Intermediate and Solo Group. Registration is restricted to Advanced, Intermediate, and Solo Group (formerly "A-Solo") drivers ONLY. Only 40 slots are available in each run group, REGISTER ASAP FOR THIS SCHOOL TO AVOID BEING WAIT-LISTED!
Students are assigned to run groups by their skill level, taking into account their prior experience, evaluations from previous driving schools (if any), and vehicle type. Each run group gets a minimum of 4 half-hour track sessions each day of the school, and students are coached from the passenger seat by individually assigned, highly-trained, driving instructors. Between track sessions, students attend lively and interactive classroom sessions tailored to their skill level. Students also learn by example by riding with their instructors during the instructor track sessions.
The GVC Solo
group (formerly A-Solo) is only open to very advanced, experienced drivers who have been pre-approved to register for this group. Solo students registered for either the 3-day (Fri.-Sun.) or 2-day (Fri.-Sat.) options will drive in "open-track" conditions with the instructors on Friday from 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM.
New Solo applicants must go through a checkout process before being admitted
. There is a special Solo "checkout" registration option for this purpose. Please note that being occasionally "signed-off" by an instructor in a student run group at a past school, is NOT
the same as being checked-out to run in the Solo group.
for details on selection to this special group. Please contact the GVC chief instructor DS-CI@gvc-bmwcca.org

A major drawing card for our school is the chance to drive the legendary Watkins Glen International road-course, which traces its roots back to the legendary races held here just after WW II. These early races were run on still-existing public roads in and around the town of Watkins Glen, and the current track layout echoes that of the original course. Its long straights, sweeping turns, and dramatic elevation changes make it both a joy to drive and a challenge to master.
Watkins Glen is a beautiful summer resort located at the southern-most tip of Seneca Lake, in the heart of New York’s Finger Lakes, one of the top wine-producing regions in the country. Besides the many wineries, restaurants, shops, and fun activities for the whole family, the area boasts a variety of nearby state and local parks noted for their spectacular gorges and waterfalls.
There are a wide variety of accommodations in and surrounding Watkins Glen, including the Seneca Lodge
, famous for its food and racing heritage, including a bar with a collection of over 60 years of racing memorabilia, and the Falls Motel
which is close to the track in nearby Montour Falls. These places fill quickly, so make reservations early.
Since this is a club race weekend, camping is allowed at the track. Please contact Watkins Glen International
to make arrangements well in advance.
If you are interested in a cozy bed-and-breakfast, a luxurious Hotel, or just camping in Watkins Glen State Park or another nearby campground, please visit our Places to visit in the Watkins Glen Area
